Generously Giving & Receiving Gifts

It’s very easy in this throwaway society, to lose a sense of the magic of giving and particularly the magic of Christmas.

Today let’s share thoughts of generosity and abundance, particularly in relation to giving. Isn’t it true, when we tend to find a sense of familiarity and maybe even mundane, we need to freshen up our mental outlook.

Generosity needs to be manifest in both receiving and giving. What really is that the root of a generous spirit? How can we be generous in not just giving but also receiving? How can I help you with this?

Consider one dictionary definition of the word ‘generosity’ :-

“The quality or fact of being plentiful”. Oxford dictionary.

Isn’t that thought of being plentiful beautiful. Generosity is not confined to little or much, it is the ‘quality or fact of being plentiful’.

When I was a child, I remember that feeling of anticipating Christmas presents and birthday presents (being born on December 29, there wasn’t a lot of time gap between the 2 LOL). That sense of excitement and the feeling – ‘is this the present I’m looking forward too’? I have no doubt you have similar memories. As I grew up, I began to appreciate more the wonderful feeling of giving not just receiving. However, sometimes as we grow older, we seem to lose the magical attachment to receiving and giving gifts. It’s very easy to hold onto and retain our perceived abundance. It’s easy to feel, that to let go of what we have will result in loss!

Consider the following abundant thought quotes -

“It takes generosity to discover the whole through others. If you realize you are only a violin, you can open yourself up to the world by playing your role in the concert.” — Jacques-Yves Cousteau

“You cannot do a kindness too soon because you never know how soon it will be too late.” —Ralph Waldo Emerson

The commonly held thought of ‘saving up for a rainy day’, whilst having some value, denies us f present opportunities. We can tend to think of gifts as being for others and whilst that is true, we also deserve to receive. What have you given yourself lately? How much attention do you give to YOU?

There is so much around us in nature to proof there is abundance. However, penny pinching society mindset can makes feel the need to hold on to what we perceive we have. Look at the trees, are there a lack of leaves? Think of the air that surrounds us, is there enough? There is more out with us and within us, than even we at times realise.

“You often say, ‘I would give, but only to the deserving.’ The trees in your orchard say not so, nor the flocks in your pasture. They give that they may live, for to withhold is to perish.” —Kahlil Gibran, The Prophet

I mentioned earlier about generously receiving. How can we all be generous in receiving? Everything we have is a gift. Everything others have is a gift. Therefore, to give and receive both come from the same place. They are gifts. The universe gives abundant gifts. Divine love in its receipt and demonstration, is a gift. Let us then give and receive gifts in one and the same spirit of generosity and gratitude.

Start sharing with me in the release of Christmas energy over the next few weeks and beyond.
